    An unexpected turn of events.
My daughter's house which is a Victorian in the oldest part of town sits at the lowest point on her block. The city she lives in has never prioritized the maintenance of sewer water and other infrastructure systems.
Late yesterday the city sewer backed up into their house. Even though the city fixed the clog the damage is done.
There will be hazmat cleaning, floors to replace and updated plumbing to install that would keep this from happening again.
So late last night we pulled out cots, blankets and pillows and had a slumber party here at our house.
Summer has so many humans to comfort. This is right up her alley.
Good thing we have enough house to accommodate.
    It will all work out.
For the right now Summer and I have six extra places to set for breakfast.
    Good morning, Mastodon.

Oh, how awful for your daughter & family! Water and sewer issues make me very uncomfortable, having experienced similar events; my daughter has as well. Like our home inspector said when we bought this house "water always wins". I sure hope the clean-up goes well.

On behalf of your daughter, ick!

But I can hardly imagine better hosts than you, Ms. Summer, and her pal.

@NorcalGma2 Ugh. So gross and disgusting to have that coming into their home. I hope the city and their insurance will cover the cost of all the work that needs to be done: and that your daughter’s lovely flower beds survive. You have lots of support and help now, so Summer is going to have a big job on her paws as well.

@NorcalGma2 Good grief, that's horrible. I hope your daughter has the added insurance for a sewer backup. I had a broken pipe in my house while I was gone for two days. $70k in damages.

@NorcalGma2 So sorry to hear of this turn of events. I hope that the city pays for appropriate clean-up and repairs and then gets it’s literal shit together to maintain its infrastructure.

Oh, no! That is a very unpleasant disaster...

I'm so sorry that happened, and I very much hope that the remediation can get done quickly and that things may end up better than they were before!

I am also glad that you can give them shelter and a kind welcome. Sending you all love, comfort, patience and forbearance...

                        @elaterite @NorcalGma2 what horror stories.
More than a leaking roof and a wet spot on the ceiling fortunately never happened here (patching roof and painting ceiling and ✓ I guess about € 2500 but not covered)

@NorcalGma2 That’s a grim thing for your daughter to deal with, but she’s lucky to have you to take care of her and the family. I’m sure Summer will take care of everyone with a great deal of aplomb!

@NorcalGma2 oh no! What a nightmare. And what a great solution y’all have devised.

I will say, though, that when I saw the dog and read the first sentence, I thought this was going to be a post about the loss of a canine. Phew.

@NorcalGma2 @lisamelton As it happens, my sister has a similar problem, with water coming out of a wall due to a damaged pipe somewhere 😩 Luckily, there’s people and dogs coming to the rescue 💪🏻

The good news is that the city took responsibility for the mess and is sending in a hazmat cleaning service today. After they disinfect they will set up giant dehumidifiers. They also agreed to replace the floor and drywall. My daughter will need to pay the plumber to install a one-way valve. Lots of disruption but the expense will be manageable. One more night, at least, at our house.
Scrambled eggs, muffins and strawberry yogurt protein powder banana smoothies for breakfast was the healthy breakfast to get us all ready for a busy day.
Summer says we've got this under control.
