@scottley Yeah I can't tell if it's a brown bear or black bear though. Some black bears are really light in color.

@cR0w how big is it? Brown bears are bigger... also, black bears, i think, are more common in WA state

@scottley This is a game cam in the Central Cascades so I didn't see it in person and both are common there. It's actually not too far from the BDR section we've chatted about before.

@cR0w @scottley Yeah, really hard to tell from this angle, but I would have said black based on the shape and what appears to be the size. Plus, if you have bugs (ticks, mosquitoes, etc.), that could be dirt.

@scottley I'm betting on black bear. That bum seems high and it doesn't appear very big, but it's hard to tell in the photo.

@cR0w @scottley I was going to say black, too. It's a tough angle, but it looks shorter (head-to-tail) and rounder to me than I'd expect of a brown bear. Seems to be missing the "hump" of the front shoulder, too?

Could be juvenile brown, though I guess?

It's pretty young, but most likely a Black Bear based on posture and shape of the shoulders.

@cR0w Without a higher res picture to maybe see the ears, it's very strongly in favor of a blonde black bear rather than a brown bear. It's butt is higher than it's front shoulders and there's no hump.

@cR0w @garthderby a brownish black bear. (ie. not a Grizzly) too small in the shoulders and paws even for a youngster
