#MorningAll & #TZAG G’day Squirrel Fans, hope I find you bright eyed & bushy tailed!

Sunday finds us slightly bleary eyed after going out last night for a Valentines meal.

It’s cold here at around 1ºC with a dusting of snow.

Off over the hills in a bit so I best finish my coffee & get a wiggle on!

Cashew later Peeps, have a fabulously nutty day #Today ! 😊🫶🖖

@Lstn2urmama @MAJ1 Snowing here. Am I really going to cycle across town to pick up a purchase as usual, or am I going to take a car?

@TimWardCam @MAJ1 In my opinion cycles have no place on roads in winter ...cars and trucks are bad enough to deal with ...

When younger had an issue of falling on ice and slid under cars a couple of times when going out to them and driver had foot on brakes whole time they were running 😬

@Lstn2urmama @MAJ1 Once Upon A Time my motorbike slid on ice in heavy, but slow, in town traffic. The bike went out from under me and I slid along the road for a short distance. When I got up and pushed the bike to the side of the road to investigate damage I was somewhat relieved to see that the juggernaut driver following me was stopped twenty yards or so back, waiting for me to get out of the way. Good thing he was awake and his brakes worked better than mine on the ice.

@Lstn2urmama @MAJ1 Actually I have this theory (maybe someone reading this knows whether it's bollocks or not - #biketooter?) that on compacted snow or ice bicycles are safer than cars. Because the snow or ice is compressed to 30psi by the car tyres, so your 70psi bike tyres are going to dig in and get a decent grip.

@TimWardCam @Lstn2urmama @MAJ1 no, tire pressure doesn’t help much. In fact, you want low 20 psi so you get more surface contact. And when the ice is glare or sloped in any way, four points of contact is better for stability.

But bikes with studded tires on ice absolutely outperform cars and pedestrians without. Also much easier to free a bike that gets stuck in deep snow.
