...and after spending a few days with snowdepth around 0~1cm, the airport has bounced back up to 4cm.
Stony Plain is at 7cm, Blatchford is at 26cm, and Elk Island is still way up at 41cm.

The big drops in snowdepth continued, with the airport down to 1cm, and Stony Plain at 7cm....the past few days have certainly felt springlike, but they were definitely a little above average.
Our average High right now is around 4°C, and average Low is -6°C. So the next few day will probably be back below average.

March 17th's High of 15.2°C made it our 3rd warmest St. Patrick's Day on record....there's always a bit of lag in Environment Canada's snowdepth measurements.
We saw a tiny drop at all of the stations on the 17th, but with temperatures staying warm overnight we'll probably see a big drop soon.

March 17th's High of 15.2°C made it our 3rd warmest St. Patrick's Day on record....March 17th was our first 15°C day of 2026, and was our warmest day since back on October 24th.
Getting to 15°C in March is not a given. Getting to 15°C in March is not a given. We also got there in 2024, 2022, 2021, 2019, 2015, etc.
But in a lot of years that needs to wait until April.

So in an early year that's a week or 2 away, but in a late year it's maybe 4 or 5.

But we should be done with the deep-winter portion of it.
So let's take a quick look back at that.

But unfortunately after the first week of March we still got to -20°C in 2020, 2018, 2017, 2013...
And Lows around -17°C crept in in 2025, 2023, 2014...
Hopefully we're near the end.

Regardless of what happens today, in March we average 20cm of snow.Regardless of what happens today, in March we average 20cm of snow. That's the same as November, December & January.
So March is solidly one of our main snow months.
And even April averages 14cm, which is the same as February...

It doesn't feel fair, but early March is often just February II: The RevengeIt doesn't feel fair, but early March is often just February II: The Revenge.
It usually stops around the first week, but it's thrown -20°C (and -25°C and -30°) at us in 2024, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2014, 2013...
So this week's -17°C could be worse. #yegwx #yeg
