I can't help but feel like I shouldn't have joined fedi sometimes. It's kind of a love/hate relationship. On one hand, there are some absolutely insane people on here, both people just straight up bullying others, and then there's the people that want to cancel everything for having a different view. On the other hand, I've met some amazing friends on here, found a platform that doesn't exploit me for my data, as well as feeling welcome most of the time. Even still, part of me wishes I'd just kept my head down. Social media is 90% poison, fedi or not. Yeah, there's good stuff here. But there's good stuff on Twitter, too.
I'm really torn, because I like it here most of the time. But I can't help but feel like cancelling people or things for things you're completely ignorant about makes you just as bad as the people you're calling terrible. Being called racist for explaining Tourettes syndrome when I HAVE TOURETTES is fucking pathetic. Being called transphobic when I'm clearly an ally, just because I'm cis? Also fucking pathetic. I could go on, but I wont.
Moral of the story, put yourself in the shoes of the people you're trying to cancel. If they're truly doing something bad, go for it. If they're just trying to get by and doing no harm, shame on you.
