@futurebird the right has systematically attacked not just higher education, but public education and the very IDEA that there is a standard curriculum that all students must be exposed to. THat undermining, vouchering, equalizing religious education with secular, all of that has a direct line attaching it to the administrations attacks on Harvard and NYU.

@futurebird TO me, this is fundamentil (like reading!) I grew up in a family that absorbed the Jewish tradition of education. I was going to college, like it or not, because that's what we do in our family. And I was married to an educator, helped her develop programs to support and encourage girls into STEM, while at the same time nervously watching the right-wing attack on public schools. As soon as they said "vouchers" I knew we were in trouble

@futurebird It is at this point I think it's important to point out that right wing American culture actively celebrates stupidity. They actively eschew education, because every time they send their kids off to get educated, they come back atheists with liberal values. They celebrate repetetive task work "like daddy used to do" and "figure it out for themselves."

Which is why they can get so far down a wrong path. No course correction.

@futurebird I do not. Putin has worked to corrupt Trump directly, along with many other people actually in Trump's government. THere was a multi-million dollar propaganda campaign that went along with it, repeatedly documented. The fact that other chaos actors, like Musk, jumped onboard, does not mean that this was a successful operation by the FSB that went wildly better than even they expected. No one thought Americans were this stupid, but here we are.

@futurebird You are assuming that there is a functional organization actually running our government and that they intend for this particular method of governance to continue. This is not the case. The US government has been (past tense) destroyed from within by Russian agents. What you're witnessing in Iran is the END GAME of a successful plot to destroy US hegemony.

@futurebird There is no court of evil where we lay evils upon the table to be judged and ranked. There are no prizes for worst evil or stupidest evil (though maybe there should be, like the Darwin awards.)

But there is a special place in hell for those who abet a stupid evil, knowing full well that it was both stupid and evil.

@drahardja Keep in mind that one of the reasons "scraping" by archive.org is ok, is because not only is a record of all media important, but it's important that it be, somehow, a publicly accessable and RELIABLE archive *without it being a for-profit venture* BECAUSE not only did we MAKE it, but all of us grew up on it. Think of the ridiculousness of copyrighting "Happy Birthday" and you'll be on the right track. Human culture IS the record, and we all deserve access to it.
