  • So, something that's been bugging the shit out of me?

@addison @munin most of the discourse around this skips over the core problem: a hosting company encouraged its users to use AI to manage their servers, but stored staging and prod and their backups all on one volume, and allowed deletion of that volume without confirmation or warning.

Schadenfreude aside, that's devops/ui/ux incompetence whether the operator at the controls is human or not. Deleting the staging database shouldn't delete the prod backups.

  • I have a #GreenParty "Tax the Rich" poster in my window, a mum and teenage-ish daughter (I assume) just walked past:

@nick when I was like 12 I wrote in a school assignment that, basically, Bill Gates having tons of money but not spending it was essentially the same as taking money from everyone else; it's not in circulation, therefore until he spends it it's almost like it doesn't exist except maybe to make him richer.

The teacher wrote a ??? as if I'd said something nonsensical, but I still stand by it. The existence of billionaires is a sign of an unhealthy "trickle up" economy.

@faoluin @cwebber we won't need "taxes" when the water wars start, just copies of Paolo Bacigalupi's book "Water Knife", a weapon, and the holy guiding hand of Jesus himself
