Sadly, the foundations shoot themselves in the foot when it comes to funding. I fought that fight for five years on the board, and it fell on deaf ears. I'm not in the mood to expand on that again, but funding for things like PyPI was always an easy sell to businesses, but it was an uphill fight to do anything that would increase funding or donations.

While we are discussing Astral's acquisition, I wrote a quick proof-of-concept last night to figure out how to find funding details for the various packages your projects depend on.
@ehmatthes @mpirnat It also answers the "How will Astral make money?" question that's been thrown around. Both major LLM providers have billions coming in from Claude Code and Codex, which is basically shaping up to be developer tools.
