Need to get more non-band shirt rocker graphic T's.@SaraElbourne When they were a band there weren't so many punk bands' shirts to wear. It's legit pretty rare to see old bands wearing other band's shirts. Lots of early hardcore bands wore dress clothes all the time.
Was it competition like did they see other bands as competing with them so they didn't want to make them seem cool (hope not)? Lack of posturing/owning the coolest shirt? Maybe bands didn't make so many shirts? Just fashion? there is a zine in this somewhere for someone else to write. Maybe our local shirt head @sore_mind needs to do a research project
Personally I rarely wear a band shirt, and if I do there is pretty much always a personal connection, but I know I am a weirdo in that respect, and I still have a closet full of band shirts.
