all things being equal I'm pretty sure AO3 has better uptime metrics than AWS or Azure@burritosec they also serve over 100M page views daily, have features that make professional librarians jealous, and do this on donations and volunteer labor.

While I really dislike tobacco, I can't help thinking that the people backing this move are deluded—did the (failed) US experiment with Prohibition of alcohol pass them by completely, or the equally failed war on drugs?@cstross @noodlemaz IMHO what changed tobacco we in the US was making it difficult to do in public - making restaurants and bars and rental apartments smoke-free made it just more pain than it was worth for many people.
(And the fact that dip grosses a lot of people out meant not a ton switched over to that)
…and then we got vapes. SIGH.

And treating policy controls like technical controls demonstrates a fundamental understanding of risk.
