For 10 years or so now there have been a handful of top Republicans who could have stepped in at any time and voted to invoke the 25th Amendment, impeachment, etc. I think it’s safe to assume they want this all to be happening the way it has.The racism, the stupidity, the small-minded cruelty, it’s all feature for them, not a bug.

Trump isn’t bucking the establishment, he is the public embodiment of their shadow selves that they are too fearful to reveal on their own.
