@augieray Who do you envision attending that fish fry? Without masks at organizing meetings, protests, and in-person action, people with health issues cannot safely attend. Democrats have been active in pushing for mask bans. You’re expecting the most vulnerable to keep showing up and pardoning people who are not showing up for them in the most basic way (wearing an accessory to prevent virus spread).

@augieray The whole “vote blue no matter who” was an exercise in “shut up and fall in line with the liberals that big donors bought because that’s the only way to fight the right” and it failed. We somehow got more and farther right-wing everywhere. So, yeah, we do need to push supposed leftists on masks and virus mitigation and authentic community care and genuine inclusion. We need to stop giving people a pass just because they’re wearing the team colours.
@augieray It is the sense of betrayal and abandonment from supposed allies who have revealed themselves to be performative and hypocritical. Leftist orgs that purport to care about big issues, especially regarding healthcare and workers rights, but refuse to mask or consider air quality are discriminating against bodies that need to be at the organizing table and part of the solutions.

Also, our colours would be the teal and grey from the Long Covid awareness ribbon and it would be strongly encouraged to decorate respirators with those colours — without compromising fit or filtration, please and thank you.

Hear me out — this but for people who remain Covid virgins and wear decorative respirators and we call them Katharinettes after me, a rare Covid virgin who wears decorative respirators.
(I am open to extending this to those who are practicing Covid abstinence after infections)
Since the first vaccine-era variant, pretty much every state of Covid summary article has spun up some variation of “Covid is milder now, so even when you catch it, you won’t immediately die or need the hospital. Keep getting vaxxed when it’s convenient for you.” And then they would reluctantly lay out some of the issues brought on by infections, framing them as things that happen to ~vulnerable people~ and ignoring that every infection shifts more folks into the vulnerable people category.
While it doesn’t fully past-tense Covid, it does seem to skew in the direction of “Covid did some serious damage pre-2023 and we’re still learning about it, but the virus is much milder now.”
And although it lays out the myriad ways Covid can fuck you up, it doesn’t seem to mention prevention of further Covid spread. No “stop spreading Covid for a hot minute so we can sort this post-infection shit out and develop treatments.”
Have not seen a study that confirms the variants are getting less severe with mutation. And given asymptomatic infection and immune disruptions resulting from previous infections, relying on the presentation of mild acute symptoms is classic Covid minimization.
This article also does not feature anyone who has acquired post-infection complications after 2023. Covid continues to spread and disable today.

The correct version of events is “when corporations freaked out about losing their profits during an international public health crisis, millions of people across all sectors were laid off. Then, profits were still lower than what corporations wanted, so millions of people were coerced back to work during the still ongoing international public health crisis. As a result, skilled workers are being disabled by the unmitigated virus and staff shortages persist.”
Not “during Covid.”
