@glitzersachen @jens @haubles I noticed that, too. A guy who probably had a 6-figure salary, made more money in a month then I will ever see in my life, complaining about not being welcome enough.
Or to put it in other words: an old cis-het white dude crying persecution because people don't like being replaced by chatbots.

Given that there is no ad revenue and no monetization here, and servers and bandwidth costs money, what exactly is the upside in large numbers?

Maybe I'm just blind or stupid, but I really don't get it. Who benefits from growth at all costs?

I'm the last one to dictate the culture. I am here because I like how it is.
But I am also ready to leave if it changes too far in the wrong direction.
Just like I stayed on FB up until they explicitly allowed, almost endorsed, harassment of trans people.
That day, I deleted my account and never looked back.

The question is: Why would you turn Fedi into Twitter, when you already have Twitter? What's the purpose then?

Well, if those people come in here in numbers, a lot of other people will leave in numbers.
So it is really the question:
Would you rather have queerfolk, or TERFs? Would you rather have Nazis, or marginalized people?
It's an effect as old as time. You let the haters in, and the decent people will inevitably leave.
I already lost many friends, even some family contacts by deleting my accounts on FB/X.
If I have to delete the fediverse to escape TERFs, so be it.

Is there hate on here? Sure.
Are you forced to engage with it? Absolutely not.

But what they want is a system like on Facebook, where misgendering trans people is explicitly allowed, but calling a TERF a TERF gets you banned.

Or on Twitter where you can just pay your way into everyones feed.

@haubles I found it most fascinating that he kept talking about a "bigger tent", and didn't even engage the argument that mastodon simply is NOT a single tent, neither big nor small.
It is a campground with many tents of varying sizes, each on with own rules and community.

He also completely disregards the fact that many people came to mastodon specifically to escape the relentless onslaught of AI (content and functions) being forced into literally every other platform.

@proscience @artemis I would like to add one point: being a user/proponent of AI isn't a life sentence. They can choose to stop destroying mankind and the world at any time.
And I don't think they are all beyond redemption.
Maybe that clarification makes my stance a bit more palatable.

But with all the damage I have seen already, I see people using and promoting AI on the same level as an alien invasion force trying to enslave or erase mankind.

They are destroying not only the environment, but eroding our very sense of reality itself. We have already reached the point where you can't believe anything anymore. The very foundation of society has been destroyed

@artemis I would argue that "AI" is a fundamentally anti-human technology.
They stole literally every piece of text and audio and video on the internet that *people* created, without consent or compensation, and used it to create machine that replace humans.

And therefore, I do not have *any* respect for people promoting or using it. Not even the basic respect that every human deserves, because they are actively promoting the replacement of humans with machines.

They are enemies of mankind.

@da_667 I wish to wholeheartedly agree. I have deleted my accounts on Facebook and Twitter specifically to *get away* from all this crap.

It's already everywhere. I get bombarded with "AI" literally everywhere, every day. My phone nags me with it. Firefox nags me with it. Youtube is full of it. People at work talk about it. Teams on my work PC nags me with it. It gets forcibly shoved into literally everything.

Can we please have this ONE little corner of the net without it?

@jbz Very troubling feelings abut this. On the one hand, Iran would probably execute me as an atheist trans person. But on the other hand, they are doing all the right things and attacking all the right targets.

@Gurre @vowe "End FIFA" isn't an actionable point. Someone needs to start SIFA (Second International Football Association) with strict anti-corruption rules.
Don't call for dismantling the bad, build a better alternative.
