@georgetakei No, no, I mean he has a point. We should go back to talking about the Epstein files

If you've ever thought that billionaire-owned media engage in a lot of wankery, trying to make the climate catastrophe* that their bosses are unleashing seem normal… well… 🥵@MySideIsHumanity LOL. Literally NO ONE looked at that graphic before it went to press? (That, or the graphic designer had just given two weeks' notice at a job he despised.)

Always keep in mind that this is just a random person on the internet.Always keep in mind that this is just a random person on the internet. However, if what she's saying is accurate, it would explain why there is such a push not to "politicize" mass shootings in the US, why it's always "too soon" to talk about stopping them.
Because, apparently, that kind of discussion gets in the way of people making BANK.

So many, many people I thought I knew have dashed their masks to the ground over the last decade.@MySideIsHumanity I believe almost anyone is capable of redemption, but that first requires the ability to recognize where one is (as opposed to where one wanted to be), and to course correct based on the best available data. I hope the majority of people out there who voted to "make America great" are recognizing that this is not greatness. It's certainly not goodness.
It's hard to admit when you're wrong. It's harder to admit you've been wrong for 150 miles of bad road.

So many, many people I thought I knew have dashed their masks to the ground over the last decade.@MySideIsHumanity I hope you're right. But I also see things like people, in the middle of a war, making videos about buying viral squishies in blind boxes. The Epstein class is treating us like infants, jingling the shiny keys to distract us from whatever fresh hell they're perpetrating this week.
"Blind" boxes are almost too much on the nose.

He must be a great magician, he made the “s” after the apostrophe disappear@jalefkowit He must have made it reappear at the local greengrocer, who is now furious because it didn't come with an extraneous apostrophe

Why must we know?@greem @TheBreadmonkey Six Degrees of Catchin' Banksy?

seeing another round of "don't favorite posts on fedi"@sarae "Don't like posts on fedi" is about as useful advice as "don't randomly smile at people on the street." The whole point of going to fedi was being able to do what I wanted. I'm going to give people the online equivalent of a friendly (or sometimes wry) smile if I feel like it.

I keep seeing articles like this, about how people choosing to drink less is hurting bars and restaurants, and it's almost always framed as people, especially younger generations, don't like to drink.@MLE_online It kind of amazes me that the pandemic DIDN'T spawn a burst of alcoholism. People stuck alone at home for months and months? With (at least in the case of the USA) an incredibly stupid government making idiotic choices?
But if you make a habit too expensive, people will do something else instead.

A very happy Ides of March to those who celebrate@epiceneVivant Yay! Off to whack a dictator-shaped piñata until candy falls out!

"Oh but he can't possibly --""Oh but he can't possibly --"
Look. I'm going to need you to stop, look up and around, and see how many things the Constitution says he can't do that he has already done. The law isn't stopping him. It's just one of thousands of other laws he's broken during his lifetime, and largely gotten away with it because he's rich and petty.
If you want to talk about things he can't do, try "He simply can't die of a massive coronary. All those Big Macs and Diet Cokes over the decades can't possibly catch up to him."

A little quiz for you today:@MySideIsHumanity Believe me, in that comparison I am definitely a female dwarf. (Complete with beard and everything; thanks menopause!)

A little quiz for you today:A little quiz for you today:
Who in your household is responsible for refilling the soap dispensers, replacing the toilet roll, running the dishwasher, checking the mailbox, sweeping floors, getting the limescale out of the tea kettle, and making sure all the clocks tell the right time?
Or did you think all those things just happened automagically?
Happy International Women's Day, by the way.

As a child, I was taught early and often that life was unfair. This might be part of the reason why so many of us just accept the idea that life is unfair. We are taught early that there's nothing we can do about it.
But that's obviously not true or we would not have created the concept of law. Or early warning systems for natural disasters. Or vaccines and other forms of disease prevention. Or a system of firefighters who battle blazes, no matter whose house they start in. There are all kinds of things we do in human societies not to fix, because that's impossible, but to ameliorate the unfairness of life.
Be skeptical of those who want life to stay unfair. It's certainly not for your sake.

As I got older, I began to notice that life *was* unfair -- and usually unfairly skewed to the benefit of a specific group.
And that the members of that group were mostly the ones who took the time to point out to everyone else that life was unfair.
Hmm.

An important clarification:when you hear people say“during Covid”they do not meanback when theywere at risk of catching Covid, for (alas) that time remains,no, when you hear people say“during Covid”they meanback when theywere trying not to catch Covid.@plaguepoems Whenever I hear people who recently took some kind of trip say they "picked something up" I just assume it's Covid.

This pup found a stick shaped like an old timey pipe earlier today and has already solved three mysteries. 13/10
