The Internet has allowed information out where journalists cannot go. It gives a voice to the voiceless. It enables this conversation that would never have happened otherwise.

By it's nature of speed/spread/anonymity, it has enabled us to see the true depravity of humanity — which was always there. You cannot confront what you cannot see.

I reject your likelihood assertion: the right-wing press is pure propaganda.

Says a man using the Internet to express an opinion to a wider audience than he'd ever have reached on a real soap-box.

Curated news sources have and are also used to spread disinformation: "It must be true, it's in the paper".

Before that it was word-of-mouth. And we burned people at the stake because of lies spread this way.

The medium is not the problem. An education system not worthy of the name is the problem. Truly educated people seek evidence and ask questions.

That's why Israel started the 'war' with Iran in the first place.

That and to embolden the Iranian regime, so as to make it 'nastier', so as to bolster the Israel supporters when they say, "we must keep supporting/funding/arming Israel because look at their terrible neighbour."

Science fiction predicts two futures: utopian & dystopian.

In the first, we seek out new life, new civilizations, and boldly go, etc.

In the other, astronauts are sent by a mining company, owned by Elon Musk the 23rd, to a distant planet to get infected by a vicious alien so it can be weaponized for war.

Keep NASA, and embrace socialism — that bit's also important — and we get the first one. Trump, Musk, and capitalism give us Alien.

But if they defund NASA, and then decide they still want to do space stuff, they'll have to go to Musk. And that will boost his profits, and the profits made by his shareholders. So hey, everybody wins
