Trump's speech on the #Iran strikes is terrifying.
This doesn't sound like limited strikes with a specific targeted outcome. It sounds like a massive campaign to cripple the regime and its military to enable the citizenry to overthrow Khameini.
This could be weeks of military operation — though bear in mind I'm usually wrong about everything and early reports in war are rarely correct.
At least this likely marks the end of Shahed deliveries to Russia, I guess.
I enjoy the trip to London when it's on personal time rather than work related so I get to use The Fun Laptop.
Starfleet Academy isn't necessarily the best Trek. The new setting post-Burn feels small and bleak, much of the sci-fi has an emphasis on seeming like magic rather than science, and the sense of discovery and wonder is entirely absent.
But gosh, it's fantastic storytelling. I thought it a bit blunt at first, feeling like Galaxy High, but things got better fast. The latest episode was absolutely wonderful.
Plus the chuds all hate it.

I don't disagree, particularly a day after the Greens pledged to leave NATO and found a new military alliance with Mexico and Brazil to counteract "American imperialism".
Results are expected around 4am btw — and yes, I will be setting an alarm for it.

It's a tossup between Labour, Greens, and Reform in the byelection.
Impossible to predict but I'm hopeful Labour take it (or hold it, depending on how you view things) rather than losing to the populists.
That said, if Reform win, it'll only be off the back of the vote being split. I take solace that most folks in the constituency don't want Reform — even if they may get foisted on them anyway.
I'll never understand these people.
They're negligent and stupid enough to have killed their child, and stubborn and arrogant enough to not regret it.
Antivaxxers, so-called alternative medicine advocates, and various other anti-scientific groups are a threat to civil society — and perhaps an existential one given their propensity for supporting populists.

Incidentally, given Farage and Ian Duncan Smith lobbying on this issue against His Majesty's Government abroad, I'm somewhat inclined to think we need an equivalent of the US's Logan Act — which makes unauthorised diplomacy on behalf of the nation illegal.
The far right populist wave across the world is a common community seeking to undermine the legitimacy of democracy everywhere. That they can organise to spoliate an elected government's diplomatic efforts is abhorrent.
This deal is entirely sensible and had consensus support up until recently when shameless political opportunists latched onto it as a way to advance themselves and further divide folks.
I'm not squeamish about allowing our bases to be used for strikes, but our basis for allowing them is always based on our interpretation of whether they would be legal or not.
And the deal holds no bearing on that.

Rumour is that something's going down tomorrow to draw Belarus into the war.
I'm very sceptical of all these sorts of things, but even if it happens the danger is less from their military — it's tiny, ancient, under equipped, and no serious threat — but rather from 1) enabling Russia to use their territory again to expand the front, and, 2) Russia having fed them nuclear weapons, presumably to deter Polish involvement.
