The "Green Sky" phenomenon predicting tornadoes, is real but also applies to any intense storm. Normally the sky is blue due to scattering and turns red at the end of the day. Tornadic thunderstorms and derechos tend to come at the end of the day and are so tall they scatter light in their own way.
