And you inspire me to add my own long-time pet-peeve: Don't call it an "ecosystem" when it's not even remotely alive.

Look at a forest and what's alive in there, that's an ecosystem. A frickin' bunch of machines running code offering some API while blinking in a particular way, that's machines running code offering an API and blinking. It's NOT an "ecosystem" by a long shot.

And then also the other thing.

Imagine your boss saying "Look, the genie is out of the bottle. We may not like it, but everybody else is using slave labor, too. So we can no longer afford not to use it ourselves..." and handing you a brand-new whip along with a voucher for a highly reputable slave-whipping course next week.

Yes, this is exactly about what you think it is about. Just how happy are you with yourself for taking that whip and attending that course?

I only just got started on this, but maybe someone else is further along? I am trying to find out what the last commit of the Linux kernel is that's most likely free of LLM-generated slop. I am "militant" in this, so I don't care if it was "reviewed by a human" before it went in, that doesn't make it better in my view. The quick deductions I was able to make earlier today:

- Sep 4 2025, commit 913e65a2fe1a16fa253c4a016e2306b2cf9ffef8 has the first "official" aka "documented via Assisted-by:" LLM slop

- Jul 27 2025, commit 038d61fd642278bab63ee8ef722c50d10ab01e8f is Linux 6.16 so that might still be "clean" as it were; later stable kernels in that series would need to be checked

- Nov 17 2024, commit adc218676eef25575469234709c2d87185ca223a is Linux 6.12 so that's probably the last "longterm" kernel that could be "clean"; later stable kernels in that series would need to be checked again

All in all it seems to me that some 6.12.x kernel is definitely the last one I'd want to use. Now given that I only run Linux on ancient hardware, that's probably not a big deal for me; your mileage may obviously vary.

Anyone else have a better take already? Aside from "you worry too much, just use the new kernels, they're fine" because that's not really helpful to me.

@petersuber Well, the only people qualified for archiving prepubs are obviously people with business degrees who spout "we need more AI" all day. That's the person they're about to hire. For sure. Not because they are looking for that person maybe. But because there's nobody else out there who would take $300k in good conscience for nothing but sitting around in an office, wanking, and telling their CEO buddies that they really helped out science today.

Here's to hoping that every hotel, restaurant, spa, naughty nightclub, etc. that HERR WEIMER wants to visit from here on out will tell him "We're very sorry HERR WEIMER but on advice from council we must refuse service." Denn in "sammelt" und "faule Eier" kann man ja jeweils viel rein interpretieren. Zählen im Zweifelsfall ALLE MÖGLICHEN Interpretationen? Müssen dazu dann alle explizit aufgezählt werden? Was wenn eine vergessen wird?

(Wenn's EINE Sache gibt, die in den USA ausnahmsweise richtig gelaufen ist, dann die dass es dort sehr SEHR *SEHR* schwierig ist mit "Beleidigung" weit zu kommen, rechtlich gesehen.)
