    @tuckerm @sarah @madeindex @rl_dane @guyjantic in curious about Piefed - without logging in it looks like the sharing options are limited compared to Lemmy.

    Here is the same post, seen in Piefed and in Lemmy. Piefed doesn't seem to have the "link to this post" option. Does that appear if I've created an account and logged in?

    @tuckerm @sarah @madeindex @rl_dane @guyjantic oh wow, that is an interesting project! Great to see action in the fediverse on Groups!

    No mention of encryption - I wonder if they were spooked by the Samurai Walllet case?

    @growfediverse @guyjantic @madeindex @tuckerm @rl_dane @sarah yeah we looked at Mobilizon - that's pretty close.

    We ( https://www.rebeltechalliance.org/ ) would like to make the 'FB Groups app of the Fediverse' but with E2EE. Not on the 'outward facing part' (federated bit where you post news) but on the internals of the group - so the instance host cannot read the data.

    It would be great for bands, sports clubs, resident groups and activists.

    But it's a mega technical challenge!

    @sarah @madeindex @rl_dane @tuckerm @guyjantic good info!

    This is a bit off topic, but do you reckon it would be possible to fork & adapt Piefed to make a 'Groups' software? Something federated that could provide the functionality of Facebook groups...

    @tuckerm @guyjantic @rl_dane @madeindex thank you, that's interesting... I was today years old when I learned that!
    @brenetic did you know that?

    @tuckerm @guyjantic @rl_dane @madeindex oh it's an alternative to Lemmy? Does that mean it's based on mbin instead of (whether Lemmy is)?

    I need to know this stuff as I'm trying to explain fediverse apps to people in a Signal 'privacy' chat and I want to make it as simple as possible.

    @madeindex @guyjantic @rl_dane @soaproot oh yeah so it does - must have been just Vivaldi on linux.... displays fine on mobile and on Ironfox. 🀷🏼
    Do you know what piefed's initial ethos /reason for being set up was?

  • 🐭 Real question:

    @madeindex @guyjantic @rl_dane @soaproot ideally i'd find a server that's focus is digital privacy and anti-bigtech. But that's pretty niche.

    patrickleavy@mastodon.socialP patrickleavy@mastodon.social

    @madeindex @guyjantic @rl_dane @soaproot piefed looks good but it doesn't appear to display the images by default. Other instances do. is that a thing?

  • 🐭 Real question:

    @guyjantic @rl_dane @madeindex any suggestions for less tankie instances? I joined ml as it said the focus was on digital privacy.

  • 🐭 Real question:
    patrickleavy@mastodon.socialP patrickleavy@mastodon.social

    @rl_dane @madeindex since Lemmy is decentralised, there are more instances beyond the original one, isn't that largely irrelevant?

    @madeindex seems weird - do many people really want that?! Or just vocal minority?
