@benroyce last Sunday and yesterday, Italy had a constitutional referendum. The vote was about a change to some articles concerning the justice system and the separation of powers. I won't get into details here, unless someone asks, but the thing is that the government wanted these amendments to be approved. Others, me included, were against them. The feeling was widespread that it would be useless to go to vote because the amendments would surely be approved. I was pessimistic about it myself. Nonetheless, and surprisingly, the turnout was massive, especially amongst young people. And guess what? We won! (For the record, I voted early by mail.) Also, given the turnout, the government can't even make up any excuses.

@fabio with the premise that I agree with the post in principle and certainly in spirit, there is still one big problem. Some companies (and some universities) require the use of authenticating apps that only run on "official" Android/iOS. Some banking applications have a similar requirement. What is a viable way to work around this, if there is one?

@kDelta @benroyce I see. No worries, I thought I was being unclear, and I answered with a long explanation (you can find it in the edit history), but basically we're saying the same thing.

@kDelta @benroyce so, how is that different from what I wrote? For the purposes of research funding, Japan, Israel and the UK (and possibly others) are treated as if they were EU member States. Of course, this is because there are agreements set in place. So?

@benroyce TBF, NATO is supposedly the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, but some of its members are nowhere close to the Atlantic Ocean.

Also, states that are not geographically in Europe are considered to be part of the EU in some specific cases. For example, for research funding, both Japan and Israel are considered as being part of the EU.

@benroyce @Strandjunker if I remember correctly, Reagan once said that freedom of religion meant freedom of choosing what Christian denomination one belongs to.
