I used to be all “just use the MIT license” or “there are situations where the GPL is the best we’ve got” but now I think exclusionary licenses are the way to go. This marks two occasions in the last week—one at my daughter's birthday party, where someone responded to my complaints about Microsoft gating reference / citation management behind some fucking "add-in" by explaining how she just uses Copilot to generate her references, and now this—where I have successfully contained my fury.Not to brag or anything.

Has anyone discussed the viability of getting something like Asahi running on MacBook Neo? I’ve seen heaps of praise for the device, and it would be nice to celebrate an affordable high-efficiency laptop, but I’m worried that it might represent further attempts to lock people out of their own devices.(I also think Apple should have to let us run other operating systems, even if only via an emulation layer, on iPhone now. But that’s a hotter take, or at least would be seen as one.)

Here’s your semi-regular Apple software bug update: Safari on iPadOS frequently associates the wrong favicon with a page, and for sites like Reddit, it can associate multiple wrong favicons with the home page and with individual subreddits. Right now it’s convinced the main favicon should be the one used by Phoronix, a local subreddit’s should be the one used by the Rust (language) website, etc. I can’t figure out any rhyme or reason for how it decides which incorrect favicon to display, though.

Sick and tired so naturally I decided to play around with neuswc, neuwld, hevel, and wsxwm on #OpenBSD. (Links can be found on wayland.fyi because I ain't doing all that.)The good news: I got all four to compile. The bad news: wsxwm seems to silently crash and foot doesn't play nice with hevel so I have no way of knowing if it actually works lol.(I'm sure the struggle is my fault—had to do some Makefile wrangling and attempting to sub out a Linux syscall, and I haven't enabled DRM because I'm on AMD, and the repo for neuwld focuses on Intel and Nvidia. So I'm just kinda stumbling my way around a bit.)One fun thing I've noticed is that Wayland on OpenBSD—and this is true of swayas well, not just my bumbling attempts to build these projects—prevents me from switching to a different TTY with Ctrl-Alt-Fn. Again, presumably my fault, but I dunno.
