@ohtheurbanity This is a little silly, but I like the idea of zoning that allows buildings to grow another few storeys taller based on the buildings already there. Like, say, the maximum allowable height is the average height of the current buildings on the block plus one or two storeys.

Me last weekend: I finally got my bike out again. Sure, I only biked two klicks, had coffee, then went back home. Every little step is progress.

Me this weekend: I biked about eighteen klicks. Aww yeah.

@carastern I've lived in apartments for most of my adult life, and it's been great. But even as a guy living alone, I'd love to move into a bigger place. I wish two and three bedroom apartments were common.

The initial impulse was to share the video, and it was nearly a tweet. However, I saw the Gateway Arch in St Louis back in 2024, and I wanted to share my own thoughts and (mostly) my pictures. I didn't understand it until I saw it in person and realized how comically enormous it is.

My phone beeped at me this morning. Someone was attempting to log into my Twitter account, which has sat idle (mostly) since 2022. I logged in and deactivated.

I had that sucker for 18 years. RIP.

I met some nice folk at the bus stop on Canal. The next bus was going to be late; then it showed up on time; then we hit a curb on Poydras that did a number on the bus; then it stopped at the Main Library for a mechanic to fix something. We (and another guy from Poland) got off and split an Uber to the airport. The bus was ready to go again after ten minutes, but we were committed.

Adventure!

The 202 airport bus didn't show up. Good thing I was headed over crazy early. I'm going to walk over to the scheduled starting point and catch the next bus ... In fifty minutes!

Had a nice bus stop chat waiting for the 8. Pretty much everyone I've met down here has been super friendly.

Last dinner in New Orleans. I took a suggestion from yesterday and headed out to a BBQ place called The Joint in Bywater. Cool place, and yum.

It's bonkers that people can drive down Bourbon St, BTW. It's the middle of the day and it's packed with people.

I kept the long pants, but ditched the bag so I'd be unencumbered. I shortly got fleeced by a trio of rappers, then spent the afternoon running around with three CDs in plastic envelopes in my hand. Heading back to the hotel post beignets. Hopefully I've learned my lesson.

Full day three in New Orleans. It's 23°C and sunny. My mind is running an endless loop of *Hot in Herre*. Rushing back to the hotel to ditch my bag and long pants.

I can see why it's such a huge draw. The mansions in the Garden District are pretty, but there's more stuff to do in the FQ.

Right. Here's my read on the French Quarter.

It's Gastown

--Minus the poverty of the Downtown Eastside
--Plus the Granville entertainment district right in the middle of it.

There are, like, quiet parts. And super loud and busy parts. Interesting historical stuff. Tonnes of tourist rubbish.

After visiting the Storyville Museum, I returned to my hotel to relax a bit before heading out for dinner and drinks. I think I'm going to wander back down Bourbon Street. Wish me luck.
