  • Hey Mastodon friends who are smarter than me — which is most of you — what's wrong with these too-good-to-be-true auto focusing glasses?

@bruce Well I don’t know how they are expecting to sell that without telling us about how it integrates with AI

  • The only difference is that electron wrapper is a browser that works for them, not for you.

That line also stood out to me: “Revenue lost from an audience of which 85% expects or accepts ads as part of the experience. The irony is cruel, but it doesn’t have to be this way.”

Expects and accepts are VERY different things. I expect to deal with a bunch of homophobic bullshit when I am in Texas. I have never at any moment of my life accepted it. This is massive false equivalency, and also nothing about that is ironic. And until ad networks stop serving malware, it really DOES have to be this way.

We apologize for or revel in our cruelty.

  • I assume in a few years they’ll make it so that Chrome can only load approved-by-Google websites, probably “to protect the children” or somesuch bullshit

@thomasfuchs when manifest v3 first came out that was all anybody needed to know about priorities at #google .
When the news came out that the browser’s engineers were overruled by the advertising team, that was all you needed to know about their vision for executing against those priorities.

The only thing left to wonder about with #chrome is when people will notice how hot the water they are poaching in has gotten and flip to #brave or another user-friendly browser.

I think I have a new favorite example to illustrate the difference between incomes and class. Money can't buy taste.
And not to be a hater -- I hope she sees more value to herself than what the outfit she selected is demonstrating.
