@brouhaha That's unfortunate. I've spoken to the press more times than I can remember, and it's usually a good experience
Yesterday at work we were discussing the news that an employee had been murdered in confusing circumstances far away, and decided that the news media were unlikely to contact us about it.
I've just received an email from the news media asking me if i can confirm that the person murdered under confusing circumstances is one of our employees.
It's gonna be one of those mornings.
@aparrish @jalefkowit I've trained myself to fall asleep to vhs tapes, which is great for situations like this, and terrible if my vcr ever dies
@coleens_ the eternal sentiment
If you were blindfolded and driven four hours from home, do you think you could drive home without looking for directions online?
Friends and I are developing two games:
The first one involves two friends blindfolding the third friend and driving them up to four hours away, removing the blindfold, and then making them drive home without looking at a phone for directions.
The second one involves one friend leaving a note with clues for the other two friends. The other two friends have to use those clues to find the friend -- wherever they're hiding in Los Angeles County
A selection of things I've been scolded for on here:
- Saying cargo bikes cost too much
- Polling people about whether they write til, 'til, or till
- Saying that too-extensive profile bios on here are like aposematic coloration, but for personality
- Referring to curry spices as curry spices
- Saying I thought the etymology of muckety muck is more interesting than the etymology of pecan
- Saying most computer users are normies and won't want to deal with Linux
- Saying that it's silly to think that using bluesky makes you better than people who use mastodon, or vice versa
- Not agreeing that Tolkien invented the concept of a character arc
- Posting a video of my wind chime made of nitrous tanks without a CW
- Saying maybe the tariffs on China could do some good if it means we buy less cheap junk
- Saying that community college classes are a great bargain
- Posting that the pope said something good about the dangers of AI
Maybe I'll keep a journal of all the things I get scolded about on here.
@BlameDutchie @miiamustang Yes, I realize that, but if any spice is curry spice, then there's no such thing as curry spice, and this is a moot conversation.
I have no idea what the parachute is
@miiamustang Also, I wouldn't object to lentil soup having curry spices in it, but that's not at all how I would make lentil soup.
I would add salt, pepper, garlic, and maybe cumin. That's really it
@miiamustang I would never put beans in a stew. Anything of that sort that has beans would, to me, be either bean soup or chili.
To me, stew only has meat and vegetables
Bean soups always seem to include ham.
Lentil soups always seem to include sausage.
I wonder why
Thief tools kit. I don't know why he had a garden hose
The holes are chamfered and it's ready to install
At least I discovered a way to keep IT from installing annoying updates on my work computer -- there's not enough hard drive space left!
Firefox has suddenly started auto-suggesting a website in the url bar that I visited one time, months ago, instead of a website that I visit every day.
Of course, all the online advice says to do a thing that doesn't match the reality of how firefox works, so I guess I'm stuck with this.
I hate computers!!
@RueNahcMohr do you have a steam engine to put it on?
I got a bunch of thief tools from a friend of mine tonight. He caught a homeless guy cutting the locks off some storage containers at his warehouse the other night. The guy ran off and left his backpack of stuff behind.
My friend called the police to ask what to do with the stuff. They told him they didn't want to deal with the paperwork of booking it into evidence and to keep it.
So, i got two cordless Makita sawzalls, a large pair of bolt cutters, and some other odds and ends. The guy also had a cordless angle grinder, but he took that with him when he ran off.
