@scalzi ‘…the cloud provider's API allows for destructive action without confirmation, it stores backups on the same volume as the source data, and “wiping a volume deletes all backups.”’ Just wow. So many weak links in that chain of events.

I wouldn't say that I enjoy these stories but I will say they certainly encourage me NOT to let "AI" anywhere anything I consider to be sensitive and/or valuable -
It happens more and more that I read an article on a website, like 404 media just a minute ago, and in the middle of reading a "subscribe to our mailing list" popup steals my focus.@talon Sometimes I don't even bother to start reading. If I have to close more than one stupid overlay or modal or whatever they're called this year, I'm not going to bother.

I really love this little bear.@senanthic I have had a rule since 1988 that I can ALWAYS purchase something small and cute that gives me a degree of happiness disproportionate to its size and price. This bear would definitely fit the criteria. And I don’t even know how much he cost.

Once I walked in to a women’s restroom in the engineering building at the University at Buffalo and a student was dismantling the soap dispenser that had been broken the whole time I worked there. She said she was just tired of it not working, so she fixed it. I hope she’s working for NASA or something now.
