  • Finally allowing apt-get to update my main desktop system to Debian 13 "Trixie", and wondering exactly how many hours or days I'm going to have to spend getting my own customizations / additions working again.

    @cazabon

    So? How did it go?

    My upgrade from 12 to 13 was incredibly smooth, I did not have to touch a thing to whatever customizations I had made. (that I remember)

    I may re-install Debian for Forkie to remake my system without Gnome.

  • A slick new phishing-as-a-service offering demonstrates just how easily a username+password and a one-time token can be phished.

    That's nasty.

    I don't like it.

    I used to ironically say the internet was a mistake, but some days lately my thoughts have shifted.

    I feel like my browser at a minimum needs a behavior shift: if any @ is in the address bar, maybe the browser gives a warning & gives you a chance to look over the address before continuing.

    Sounds like younger me as well.
    Had to have those huge uptimes!

    I also thought computer components would wear down more with daily shutdown/power on like how incandescent light bulbs seem to burn out faster with being cycled off/on.

    I'm with ya, I'm in team shutdown.

    Moving from HDD to SSD was rather magical for boot times.

    Edit: though I suppose hibernation would have it's use for a situation where you're out n about with your laptop, battery about to die & the thing you're doing for whatever reason cannot be immediately saved.

    The simple solution would be to find Remittancegirl's post, hit the three dot menu & use "open original page".

    Less load on the servers this way. 🐧
