If you were to guess, which of these components is installed in most devices world-wide?I voted libz due to the dependencies in vcpkg:
curl depends on zlib . It also depends on openssl for most configurations that people actually use
sqlite3 depends on zlib as an optionI *thought* OpenSSL depended on zlib as well when I answered but it looks like I was mistaken

Stolen from the bad site:@wdormann I agree that this example sucks but I also argue that most UNIX/GNU-ish things go way way too far in the other direction and sacrifice a lot of clarity to save a keystroke or two. (And very few shell things work correctly whenever paths contain a space)

Not safe for Americans: casual 400V (total) 3-phase 32A high-power outlet in European household@rail_ How "total"? Did you add up phase to ground or phase to phase values?
Also, why do I hear Photonicinduction boss music?

"The most effective debugging tool is still careful thought, coupled with judiciously placed print statements."@lizardbill Tell me your debugger is not great without telling me your debugger is not great...
(In fairness, the statement probably applies a lot more on a PDP-11)

I miss the early-2000's battle.net. -
The people who use AI to write for them don't even read the stuff they don't write.@AlSweigart Or hire an editor to review the stuff they don't write

This evening has had a sad surprise for me.@nik I’m guessing they don’t want the liability of COPA and similar Acts.

So CopyFail CVE-2026-31431 is a thing.@ra6bit @ariadne @joshbressers @gregkh @wdormann @Viss @andrewnez @Di4na And then we could have spectacular arguments about what to assign those vulnerabilities where finders argue for maxing out everything even when the vuln is unreachable in practice. (*screaming from the curl maintainers in the distance*)

AI needs a lot of fiber for solid shitposting.@vitaut I thought people eat fiber specifically to make things less soild

I had an AI criticize my UI and it said “it’s giving win32” - we have reached AGI.@Migueldeicaza Win32 is actually good and I will die on this hill.
You can nuke the hill as long as you make sure the people doing on-hover-only UI get taken out with me

Today, two cybersecurity professionals who made a deal with AlphV/BlackCat to use their #ransomware to attack multiple victims in the U.S. were sentenced to four years in prison.@PogoWasRight If not for "leaked patient data" I would have said reasonable.

Switched https://github.com/fmtlib/dtoa-benchmark to Google Benchmark for more reliable time measurement.@vitaut I'll get around to submitting https://github.com/BillyONeal/dtoa-benchmark/commit/be563ec2af8973840315cb644783db5144b8566b ... eventually. Want to see what it does on an x64 machine first but that machine is a bit busy ( https://infosec.exchange/@malwareminigun/116495687063912298 )

Switched https://github.com/fmtlib/dtoa-benchmark to Google Benchmark for more reliable time measurement.@vitaut Here's the same hardware with Windows/MSVC directly:

Switched https://github.com/fmtlib/dtoa-benchmark to Google Benchmark for more reliable time measurement.@vitaut It looks like whatever picks the file name got confused, will be happy to send these somewhere if you want.

Switched https://github.com/fmtlib/dtoa-benchmark to Google Benchmark for more reliable time measurement.@vitaut I mean, that's merely where I gave up, there were lots of other bits before that.
EDIT: But if you want to see our ostringstream be off at the freaking moon even on a log chart like this I'm sure it'll be funny

Switched https://github.com/fmtlib/dtoa-benchmark to Google Benchmark for more reliable time measurement.@vitaut I tried to run it on Windows directly but too many *nix assumptions; I gave up after cache-contention.cc wanted <unistd.h>
