Recently I found that @coreysnipes has been working on a project in which he rescues discarded laptops, repairs them, and outfits them with Linux Mint, and then gives them away to those who need them, for only the suggested cost of shipping.I came across this here on Mastodon a month ago and told him I was interested in taking him up on the offer - I use an ancient PC still running Windows 10 and I've needed a workhorse laptop that I can travel with for a while now. I've been interested in Linux for ages but as a not super tech-savvy person I've always been too intimidated to take the plunge.Holy smokes, I am glad he's offering this - I love this machine. I've heard it said that Linux Mint is not only very forgiving to those used to Windows, but also very reminiscent of using Windows years ago before all the bloat, adware, AI, and other junk, and that until you start using Mint, you don't realize how much you've been frog-boiled into putting up with hot garbage. I can confirm: this is correct.
