true HOLY FUCKING SHIT moment this morning: over the holidays, my sticker guys were having a special on red octagons, so I designed and ordered 250 "Slop Sign" stickers — but while I was in China, someone stole them out of my mailbox. -
Today's threads (a thread)@nuintari @pluralistic yeah totally. Not to mention the amount of times I’ve got counterfeit or misrepresented crap from Amazon. Life is so much better without them

Today's threads (a thread)@pluralistic One of the strangest unexpected joys in moving to Denmark was the unavailability of Uber and Amazon. And yet, online shopping in Denmark is a much nicer experience than in America and it turns out, I don't miss Amazon at all.

"I keep hearing AI advocates say that the universal deployment of AI will create a “productivity explosion” and “unprecedented wealth creation” and will “end poverty.”@mike I don't really understand why we listen to tech advocates any more at this point? They have no credibility. It's like when Elon Musk promises something, at this point, its like an anti-promise.
The structure of big tech promises has time and again revealed to be propaganda to cover their own anti-social ends, typically, accruing profits at the expense of everyone else.

Douglas Adams talked about the ‘shoe event horizon’, where a society becomes so depressed and degenerate that it is economically impossible to build anything but shoe shops.@lordof1 Hair is a growth industry!

#USpol #Norway #taxes #tax@davidaugust This was the episode if anyone was curious https://art19.com/shows/factually--with-adam-conover/episodes/15cde6ef-07e2-4833-b21d-ddf74c7d81a8

#USpol #Norway #taxes #tax@davidaugust I liked Tim Wu's point the other day that private corporation in America are basically creating a "private tax", where they are being extractive and taking the profits while provide no value to consumers. His example of this was Amazon's pay-for-boosting merchants pay into, and that gets translated into higher consumer prices.
I wonder if you could analyze this "private tax", maybe the tax rate wouldn't be that different?
