@dalias @sarahjamielewis True but this happens a lot too in non FOSS environments. You have to really hope you have a product owner who thinks about whether the new feature is actually useful

The extent to which core linux projects are laying the groundwork for age verification is very concerning.@sarahjamielewis I fear that part of the reason for this is the developer mindset. They see a new problem that they can solve so they start working on it without thinking if they should build this in the first place.

Oil companies when the price of oil goes up: "The pumps at the station immediately reflect the increased prices we have to pay for fuel"@mainframed767 @paco It’s even worse: the price at the pump is based on the expected future price, not the actual current price but only when the future price is expected to be higher. Otherwise it’s like you said: it’s a complicated system. It’s not. It’s highway robbery

Apple is preparing to fold the iPhone — whether or not anyone asked for it.@kibcol1049 @gareth @peteriskrisjanis My son uses my iPhone 12 and it’s perfectly fine. And yes he uses it a lot and for gaming too. I’m not getting where this idea comes from that Apple obsoletes hardware.

In the ‘90s, I used to run antivirus software on Windows and it found a bunch of things, including one virus that was on a magazine cover disk (ooops!).@david_chisnall We’re running SentinelOne on MacBooks. It hasn’t found a malicious file in 12 years but causes all kinds of performance issues and we’re not allowed to turn it off
