I should give Carney a break. That "Workers of the world, unite!" sign is not going to be hung up on its own.

"But I also submit to you that other countries, particularly middle powers like Canada, are not powerless."It seems that every day we're reminded that we live in an era of great power rivalry. That the rules-based order is fading. That the strong can do what they can, and the weak must suffer what they must.
This aphorism of Thucydides is presented as inevitable — as the natural logic of international relations reasserting itself. And faced with this logic, there is a strong tendency for countries to go along to get along. To accommodate. To avoid trouble. To hope that compliance will buy safety.
It won't."

They have the capacity to build a new order that embodies our values, like respect for human rights, sustainable development, solidarity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.
The power of the less powerful begins with honesty."

AI data centres are absolutely throwing a climate-devastating lifeline to the fossil fuel industry.Working on several stories for the Mix and it's bad...really bad.

In Alberta - they're not even trying to hide it.
AI data centres and methane gas are BFF's.

I attended the Canada Pension Plan information session yesterday evening in Calgary.Someone also asked about investing in AI, given that there is legitimate concern about how some of the big tech companies are financing their expansion of data centres.
And I couldn't tell you what the CPP spokesperson answered. It was that clear.

I attended the Canada Pension Plan information session yesterday evening in Calgary. Most of the questions were on the topic of climate change and I applaud those who stood up to ask about the topic. One person also asked about military investments.
It's always surprising to hear people suggesting investments in risky projects such as a bitumen pipeline to the west coast, which even private companies are not willing to invest in right now.
But, someone in the audience did suggest that. 🤯

I attended the Canada Pension Plan information session yesterday evening in Calgary.I attended the Canada Pension Plan information session yesterday evening in Calgary. I left with more questions than answers and many concerns about how the CPP is investing the almost $800 billion now in the fund.
Are they making solid investment decisions based on facts or listening to PR/spin by wealthy executives receiving bonuses from corporations with their heads in the sand about the seriousness of climate change?
It seems like the latter.
That being said, I'm absolutely not a fan of an Alberta pension plan, which would be infinitely worse.

We need to talk about Kevin. We need to talk about Kevin.
There’s been a twinning of Wonder Valley.
Double the required power. Double the emissions. Double the water use.
And two communities potentially holding 26,000 acres of land for hyperscaled AI data centres, waiting for the investment dollars to come through - in one case, Albertans have been waiting for more than a year.
Behind-the-scenes on O’Leary’s latest scheme.

With little progress to report on the $70-billion Wonder Valley artificial intelligence data centre project promised for northern Alberta, Kevin O’Leary has announced he’s developing a twin AI data centre project in Utah, also named Wonder Valley.💣 💣Well, that had the desired effect...at least on Greenview!
An "authorized source" who did not want to be named has replied to my email. The story has now been updated.
There is no land sale yet.

With little progress to report on the $70-billion Wonder Valley artificial intelligence data centre project promised for northern Alberta, Kevin O’Leary has announced he’s developing a twin AI data centre project in Utah, also named Wonder Valley.💣 💣@Sir_Osis_of_Liver Yes, outlandish, is the word I keep thinking of to describe this. The question I have is why do some people believe the sales pitch? I can't figure it out.
And why are real companies like PCL, KPMG, and Gensler allowing their names to be associated with this...?

With little progress to report on the $70-billion Wonder Valley artificial intelligence data centre project promised for northern Alberta, Kevin O’Leary has announced he’s developing a twin AI data centre project in Utah, also named Wonder Valley.💣 💣I’ve requested comments and further information from O’Leary, MD of Greenview, West GenCo, and Technology and Innovation (Alberta government).
There’s been no response or even acknowledgement of my emails. I just emailed PCL Construction (Canada) this morning, so we’ll see if they reply.
Read my latest about how O’Leary is doubling down on methane-gas powered AI data centres, trying to raise cash now for not one, but two hyperscale projects.
Also included in the story are my adventures trying to get information through Access to Information requests.
TLDR: Next to impossible to get any information, government secrecy is rampant

The projects require 15 GW of power (7.5 gigawatts each), to be deployed in phases. Both are close to methane gas infrastructure, and both involve land purchases of up to 13,000 acres.
No one is willing to answer my questions or provide details on either project.
For projects of this scale and impact on local communities and the environment, you’d think some transparency and accountability would be part of the plan.

Drove by the separatists sitting outside their RV camper "collecting signatures" on the side of Highway 2 south of Calgary yesterday.Drove by the separatists sitting outside their RV camper "collecting signatures" on the side of Highway 2 south of Calgary yesterday.
They were parked in a roadside pullout (pretty sure that's not allowed) and looked pretty lonely.
Sitting on the side of the highway as a strategy to get signatures seems a bit delusional. What are the odds of getting sufficient numbers of random people driving by at 100km/hour, and also motivated enough to stop, pull off and sign a petition?
Nothing about this movement makes any sense. Much like the convoy...it's the same crowd, but they've purchased all new flags.
