Oh boy, this year the UK is—surreally—entering Sam Battle, aka Look Mum No Computer, as their contestant in the Eurovision Song Contest. -
eBay packages as shipped from different regions: China - ePacket, no packing slip, item miraculously undamaged@North I once ordered a used ATM pin pad from a Japanese seller and the package included a thank you note along with two beefy TO-220 package BJTs.

HDMI is always a pain to debug, so I am looking into measuring cable performance somehow.@cccpresser @manawyrm AMD/Xilinx IIRC has a built in eye scan feature on their high speed transceivers. Most off the shelf FPGA boards with HDMI inputs or outputs have redrivers or retimers in front of the FPGA though.

HDMI is always a pain to debug, so I am looking into measuring cable performance somehow.@azonenberg @cccpresser yeah, you definitely want to do a four port measurement. The only way around that if you only had a 2 port VNA would be to bodge something with some baluns, but good ones covering that frequency range can be very pricey and you’d still have to cal them out of your measurements.

HDMI is always a pain to debug, so I am looking into measuring cable performance somehow.@cccpresser That’s definitely an off-the-shelf product. Looking for “HDMI fixture”, it seems leo bodnar sells one for a reasonable price.

How to tell a formerly respectable brand has jumped the shark (after selling out to Qualcomm, who are their own special species of shitbaggery):@cstross @adafruit For context, at least the symbol shown on screen does not look like something I’d accept quality wise for a library symbol. It has inconsistent pin spacing, the power pins should be on the top/bottom edges, for this kind of part the EP and GND pins should be stacked, the GND pin should be on grid, and the I2C pins should be on the left side of the symbol to preserve reading direction.

How to tell a formerly respectable brand has jumped the shark (after selling out to Qualcomm, who are their own special species of shitbaggery):@cstross @ben You might be confusing the two because a while ago adafruit was posting about some changes to arduino’s privacy policy after the qualcomm takeover. Not long after, the partner of adafruit’s founder had a nuclear-scale crash out on fedi and other platforms going after a few unrelated people who did nothing wrong. The guy seems to be a real creep.
