I'm just here to point out that the surest way not to be impacted by quantum crypto breakthroughs is to not use cryptography in the first place -
In Helpdesk I was so upset about a venerable HP LaserJet 4100n I was being made to retire I took a picture of it in the cart.@SwiftOnSecurity Oh, I still have this exact model in use. With extra paper trays, duplex unit, max. memory and network interface. Of course the printer network is segregated by a hardware firewall. Works perfectly fine. The only issue is that it doesn't support color. But it's extremely fast and cheap.

For many people, the #Linux vs #Windows vs #Mac debate is a privilege — it assumes you can choose.@codemonkeymike I was thinking about people in very poor countries trying to get used to (offline) computers, or children there playing older games. But yes, for anything like work or school, Linux is probably the best choice.

For many people, the #Linux vs #Windows vs #Mac debate is a privilege — it assumes you can choose.@codemonkeymike Well, WinXP probably installs fine on all of them and there are enough free licenses or circumventions available. Now it depends a lot on what you want to do with it. If you want to run older games offline, then that's maybe even a usable choice. If you want to do online banking and Internet browsing, well, don't do that with an OS out of support.

Somewhere at the French-Swiss border.@fj Considering that they only have 92 anti-protons in their jar ... how much would it cost to fuel an airplane? And what would be the weight, including their traps?
