Monkland station? -
I’m looking for some advice: What’s the best protocol to use for sharing files on a Linux box with Macs?@EdwinG Thanks. I keep reading about NFS being retired on Mac, which has made me skittish.

📖 “Toronto's underground labyrinth”@david_megginson Not sure if you're speaking about Toronto in particular, but I'm curious about how good the underground connections are between malls in terms of being step-free? In Montreal, there's a bit of neglect at the point where the malls and office buildings connect underground.

Monkland station?@EdwinG The complexities of Montreal's railway history always delights me! Thanks for the link.
-
Monkland station?@jfmezei Thanks, it's all very strange. It's probably something which will get fixed when they roll out the new design bus stop signs.
-
Monkland station?@NeueWelle It's really odd. Was it a deliberate easter egg from someone in the STM signage department?
-
Monkland station?Monkland station? I wonder what the story is here, because as far as I know there is no such station.

📖 “30 seconds to midnight?
“30 seconds to midnight? 15?”Well, this isn’t at all terrifying </sarcasm>
I think the nightmare scenario has always been Skynet (I.e. Allowing AI unmonitored control of weapons), and it looks like that’s where the idiots want to take us.
30 seconds to midnight? 15?
The Trump administration is literally playing with fire.

📖 “Toronto's underground labyrinth”
“Toronto's underground labyrinth”I do like the idea of referring to these underground networks as “pedestrian metros”. I think the few cities which have them are all the better for it, even though they’re flawed in many ways.

I’ve been told AFP is no longer well supported by Macs, but that SMB can also cause issues.

Brief shoutout to a thing which is common in UK suburbs but seems rare in Canadian ones, and that is public footpaths connecting cul-de-sacs.@uxmark @CyclingGuide Interesting. I guess it may vary between suburb. I’ve walked through a few in Greater Montreal where you’re forced onto the main road to get across because there are no back routes due to all the dead ends. Miserable places.

🗻 Apparently today is Mount Fuji day, so to celebrate here’s a photo I once took from the Shinkansen, circa 2009 I think. -

“How far back in time can you understand English?”I’m clearly going to need to set a lower limit on my Time Machine, lest I’m completely unable to communicate with anyone.

The difference these make to a walkable suburb versus one which makes you take long detours on foot is really underrated.

“THIS is how you make trains accessible for everyone”Been a while since I’ve been out on the Greater Anglia network, but these trains look fab.
(Ottawa has trains from the same family I believe, although I’ve not yet ridden those either yet)
