Every sex worker I've personally known did not start doing it for the Joy of Sex, but to survive due to egregious lacks of social safety nets, and economic policy that punishes workers while rewarding fat cat misery profiteers. There are genuinely people who enjoy the work, and a safe co-op / unionized environment would be great, but we can't ignore how often people come to the work due to regressive policies that ransom people out of doing what they love into doing whatever hazards they can just to survive. Sex work isnt the only profession where this happens - people putting their bodies on the line to make ends meet on pain of slow death - and the conditions that make this kind of exploitation thrive need to be dealt with. For example: Make the rich pay their damn taxes.

@dnkboston Yup. It really pissed me off because how can you be prosecuted for sex that the court already dismissed as not happening? Like who'd they perform the sex work on then, a fucking ghost? 🤪

@dnkboston Don't forget the time he was caught in a sting at a brothel, and they threw out the charges against him but prosecuted the women for the prostitution for him So love to see a rich sex pest fail.

@guyjantic @madeindex @tuckerm @rl_dane @patrickleavy @sarah I thought Friendica already has group functionality? (what it lacks is a jazzy ui). Mobilizon had nice UI and I was able to get my Friendica to join a Mobilizon group and vice versa, but the Mobilizon instance I was on wasn't configured well enough so it was slow/buggy (and I dont self host yet so I wasnt able to investigate further).

Post Script: I am posting from Friendica right now actually, as I understand it Mastodon users dont always see which Fedi tech is being posted from so wanted to mention that for context.

@madeindex @soaproot I've used piefed before, it's very nice. Ended up recommending it to my friend as a reddit replacement and they like it.

@madeindex The main aversion I ever saw was for some reason Lemmy could be very heavy load wise. One of the instances I used to be on had to defederate not due to any maliciousness, but due to it choking out our instance (and I dunno if it was high messaging rate or blowing out the storage or what).
