@dangillmor The idea that they're just going to run people and cyclists over willy nilly is absurd. I work in the industry (not for Waymo) and dealt with multiple scenarios where pedestrians would jump out in front of our cars on purpose.
Is that a stupid thing to do? Yes, but the cars wouldn't hit them. Because it can't. The have collision detection that will stop the car. We even ran a test where we tried to make it hit a child-sized dummy, and it just wouldn't do it.
