good news: i bought a very good USB cable tester on aliexpress :)@whitequark by far my worst cable experience was the slow creeping dread going from "oh I didn't know this cable had an blinking LED in it?" to "oh wait, it doesn't..."

Hrmm due to filling up my database allocation I have had to increase my Masto@bloor ouch. I went for cheap VPS hosting for my microblog instance (@gadgetoid@mastodon.gadgetoid.com ) and self hosting has been its own adventure. Mastodon is complicated and unwieldy and trying to regenerate static assets will knock out my server so I have a local staging copy just for that. And then there’s the hassle of backups. I’m sure there are solutions involving money and time but I don’t want a second job running a mastodon server. £25/month to avoid that is…. tempting.

Why is OpenReach broadband so damn expensive?@ukscone this is a very very first world problem.

Why is OpenReach broadband so damn expensive?@ukscone we used to sponge off the neighbour’s EE Hotspot using a GL.iNet router, which was probably the best we had. I think logging in to the free mobile hotspot account fifty times a day probably got the account banned though

Upfront pricing seems tenable but then it has yearly price hikes, it can’t really be cheaper to just use 4G!?
