@FSonderIf shop lifting is costing retail so much the answer is simple. Return to shops with sales counters with all the stock behind the counter and assistants to serve it. They'll probably need more staff but the reduction in losses to theft would offset that. They won't of course. They want fewer staff not more and some magic tech to fix the thriving problem.
