@ascentale @meganL @bikenite A7: There's a lot less regulation of bicycles than motor vehicles. Bikes have CPSC regulations for safety that they're supposed to meet. This is why each bike from a reputable manufacturer comes with reflectors. Motor vehicles have many more safety regulations (US DOT) that cover everything from seat belts to beam patterns of the headlights. Then there's a whole nother set of emissions regulations. There's even more emissions regulations in California. For example motor vehicles being sold there have to pass the "shed test" where they are put in a heated room for a period of time and have to not leak any hydrocarbons.
I have not heard of anyone other than CPSC checking that bicycles meet the standards. I've not heard of any state orgs that do so.
I think if e bike regulation becomes a real thing then we'll see some states implement something. But it would take e bikes being much more popular to happen.
