Update on my #vinyl record static electricity issue - I figured it out!
tl;dr - using the anti-static brush (ironically) while the platter was spinning, esp if I added extra movement, seems to be the culprit. Extra vigorous in the video just to demonstrate. No, I do not normally "scrub" the vinyl like that! 
@danirabbit I recently went to a concert. The band has been getting more and more scathing in their sarcastic jabbing at certain ignorant stereotypes. I was *shocked* at the number of people in the audience who were the target of that sarcasm and still LOVED it. It became painfully clear: this country is addicted to violence and vengeance. They don't even notice if it's aimed at their face, as long as they can cheer on what they perceive as aggression.
