@GossiTheDog @rmondello been saying for weeks that OpenAI is gonna implode before the end of the year. Wish I could say the same looked true for Anthropic and the Gemini business unit, but maybe I just need to wait for the first domino to fall.

I've been a programmer for over 20 years but I didn't really understand software engineering as a whole until I'd been programming for over half a decade. One of the reasons I started mGBA was to get practice actually applying software engineering at scale, since until that point it had been more toy projects and a handful of horribly written larger projects. Just writing small one-offs doesn't really let you exercise all the skills you need for coding at scale. But it was never really taught to me and I had to sort of pick it up along the way.

Using "computer programmer" and "software engineer" as synonyms has done untold damage to the profession. Programming is only ONE component of software engineering, and yet it's the only part people tend to focus on when discussion the profession as a whole. There's so much more to making maintainable software than just writing it.

@gumnos Still in ports, but fuck compiling anything that heavyweight. Absolutely hellish browser to compile because it vendors basically an entire operating system--and one that's way heavier than buildworld at that!
