Watching the livestream of the Artemis II launch, I just witnessed one of the astronauts type in the password on their tablet while sitting in the capsule on camera. -
so anthropic's coding thing leaked, and they are using DMCA to get it taken down.@ariadne they probably did not want to have this lawsuit this soon, but claude did

If this is true, Donald Trump has managed the unusual feat of going to war with another country and having them come out of it stronger than they went in@jalefkowit It would have been easier (and cheaper!) for everyone if we just gave Iran some nukes

Been thinking about this: https://bsky.app/profile/jay.bsky.team/post/3micpg7z2h22g@cwebber For my own stuff I find code as art to be a spectrum, with different projects falling at different points on the line. It correlates heavily with the extent to which I feel like using LLMs for that project or not.

NINETY DAYS@0xabad1dea this rocks, pick any random homelab on fedi and it's probably destroying github lol
-
I regret to inform my fellow olds that I have been informed of some recent meme developments.@cR0w olds should start calling anything and everything "the new six seven"

Curiosity: 4844th day of the mission@pomarede I remember when that first happened I was wondering if it would affect longevity, but not yet!

US government in 1996: strong encryption is a munition and you can go to prison for years if you export@wwahammy the old encryption export controls are exactly what this age verification stuff made me think of too

Top FEMA Official Claims He Teleported to Waffle House.@jwz naturally this is why they registered aliens dot gov

I'm OK being left behind, thanks!@blog I really dislike the mentality that crypto cemented in the minds of the general public, that if you are simply a FAN of a thing early that it will make you rich.
I think this is a lot of what is behind the AI spam problem as people have had to come to terms with the fact that they do not in fact hold a claudecoin that will reward them for sitting on their ass. That claude sub is actually the reverse, where they are paying for the privilege of feeling like they are early.

people on reddit are doing a whole lot of yapping about age verification in Linux@cas Have the projects received guidance from actual lawyers? It doesn't seem like the text of the legislation is final in a lot of jurisdictions. I don't know if anybody knows what interpretation or enforcement might look like either. If the devs' hands get forced then it is what it is, but it feels like an own goal to pre-comply too early.
-
Anti-AI zealots: Get ready to scrub your beloved #Linux from your hard drives, or maybe switch to #devuan?@feoh between this and the age verification field they should have near 100% coverage for user alienation

When USSR was crumbling, factories were also paying workers in products they manufactured.@rysiek After skimming the article I'm kinda torn on this. I think would-be-employees asking about what kind of resources (and quotas) they'll have at the job are fair questions. I think employers trying to frame it as comp is scummy. Your comp package includes 20 cups of coffee per pay period.

now that i am... writing my own agentic LLM framework thing... because if you're going to have a shitposting IRC bot you may as well go completely overkill, i have Opinions on the state of the world.@ariadne Yeah, you basically already answered it yourself, but China really destroyed the idea that there's some super secret training data that people can't get
-
now that i am... writing my own agentic LLM framework thing... because if you're going to have a shitposting IRC bot you may as well go completely overkill, i have Opinions on the state of the world.@ariadne I think your question in the fourth point is answered by your first point. A lot of the secret sauce is just hoarding compute.

now that i am... writing my own agentic LLM framework thing... because if you're going to have a shitposting IRC bot you may as well go completely overkill, i have Opinions on the state of the world.@ariadne It might not be well received by everyone, but would read a blog post if you do write one
-
now that i am... writing my own agentic LLM framework thing... because if you're going to have a shitposting IRC bot you may as well go completely overkill, i have Opinions on the state of the world.@ariadne Did you pull in a tool use data set to fine tune on, or was this accomplished entirely through prompting? I've always been interested in how lean the models can get.

can i talk to an openclaw bot using internet relay chat?@ariadne new eval, you ask it to generate a random password and it has to respond with hunter2

i've said this before but i'm gonna say it again: it's *fascinating* watching the software industry rediscover why best practices exist in real time@eniko When the dust settles there needs to be an accounting of which practices were brought back and which ones were not brought back. We focus a lot on the former and miss the latter.

It's not entirely new; but, with the rampant proliferation of #LLM usage in software, I'm not exactly thrilled(actually, I'm very annoyed) in having to re-evaluate my personal heirarchy of trust when it comes to the computing that I use daily.@kevinbowen I'm not an AI abstainer myself, but even I have some apprehension. I mostly just want to see people being critical of the outputs, and I don't always see that.
