@ancientjames That is very cool and super interesting.
So hypothetically doable, but at an immense engineering cost to get it Just Right

@ancientjames what if instead of fog in the middle, it is a block of glass that is spinning that has the specks in it? Like the ones where you turn a light on and it is a globe, but just making spots across the whole block.
Would that work with this kind of setup or would it “activate” too many specs?
I have no foundation around light/refraction so I don’t have a clue if that would work
@futurebird Final Fantasy X-2 ah shorts
If they come in black or leather Final Fantasy 15
@zak I had to do a similar transition with my actively running Jellyfin Podman setup when I moved it all to a new machine.
Basically just backed up the settings to a new os install, lined up the mount paths to point to the existing media and database/configuration, and then just fired it up.
It was remarkably painless, and I was able to line up the expected ffmpeg libraries and such that way much better than fighting with the package manager by containerizing it. Also having it pre-ship with any GPU related libraries I needed and passing the device in worked super well.
The hardest part of the whole thing was updating the routes/DNS on my router to send stuff over to the new machine
@SeanPLynch @futurebird @Meowthias a number system in a base of Pi is still expressible in other number systems.
The thing about number bases is that they are still expressing the same numbers, so you inevitably run into the same issue of “ratios between integers”. Math is describing something outside of the context of the counting system.
The counting system is just the tool used to express the concepts, but they aren’t intrinsic to math itself. They are one of the many symbolic vehicles we use to express and share concepts and discoveries about in math, but they aren’t math itself.
If the number system shifts as it goes along, it doesn’t change that we can express in using conventional maths, integers, and symbols in base 10. So we always return back to the “cannot be cleanly defined as a ratio between two integers”
Integer has a specific meaning and definition, that isn’t just “a digit expressed as a whole unit in a particular counting base”.
You kinda get what I’m getting at? No matter the base, even one that changes the “step” as it goes along, the same fundamental constants of relationships between the geometric expressions of the radius to the circumference will never be a clean ratio between two whole Integers.
@SeanPLynch @futurebird @Meowthias I think there is a fundamental misunderstanding of what an irrational number is going in here. Because regardless of the base that is being used, or the counting system at play, you can’t tweak how you count to make the irrational numbers suddenly rational.
The “ratio” in rational is about how the number can be described as a ratio of two other integers. To be irrational means that it “cannot be expressed as a ratio between two integers”
Whatever base you use does not get around this. Using a base that is fractional doesn’t change the fundamental definition of “expressed as a ratio between two integers” either, it just means that it is incredibly difficult to do math because you have to express things in complicated addition and subtraction chains to represent a whole integer.
@becomethewaifu @zzt I scrolled to see if someone left this suggestion; this is what I do to handle it. Both in iOS and MacOS, it mostly handled issues I have with liquid glass and I basically forget about it altogether.
Hopefully this trick works better, cuz I too was very disappointed with the “tinted” setting.
I don’t expect this joke of a design system to stick around after 26, I am hoping they intend to just bury it, with the main director who forced this shit moving on to another role.
