@sundogplanets I've largely used "semi", "semi-truck", "tractor trailer", and "18-wheeler" interchangeably

I apparently really like to use trucks (both pickup and the bigger types) as comparison points for satellite stuff. -
So many tech bros are coming at me right now arguing that yes, in fact, Windows users or Facebook users don't deserve privacy.@veronica And the obvious counterpoint is Facebook, Microsoft, and Google don't deserve my data or my attention.
In fact, due to their monopoly positions, megacorps have a greater responsibility to be good stewards of the data they collect. But nobody's holding them responsible so lol i guess.
Also users may not even realize they're "using" MS/FB/Goog because of advertising crap and jerks wearing creeper-glasses. I'm not consenting to FB having my face, but if some asshole is wearing Zuck's perv-dongles I guess I don't get a say.

The costs are local. The benefits are Googled.

The next decade is going to be a parade of misery in corporate IT/development.

Very exciting to get rain instead of snow!@sundogplanets And folks wonder why I keep a snow brush in my car year-round.

Is it weird that I basically never charge my phone on a “wireless” charging pad?@thomasfuchs Nope. The only wireless charger I use (rarely) is the one built into my car. Otherwise it's just the most convenient USB-C cable.

Troy Hunt's brain has been completely consumed by prion tokensFor folks unaware of the reference, it's from a conversation between Granny Weatherwax and Rev. Mightily Oats, in Terry Pratchett's Carpe Jugulum. Quoted:
“And sin, young man, is when you treat people like things. Including yourself. That’s what sin is.”
“It’s a lot more complicated than that –”
“No. It ain’t. When people say things are a lot more complicated than that, they means they’re getting worried that they won’t like the truth. People as things, that’s where it starts.”
“Oh, I’m sure there are worse crimes –”
“But they starts with thinking about people as things …”#GNUTerryPratchett #TerryPratchett #GrannyWeatherwax #Sin #Things #CarpeJugulum

Troy Hunt's brain has been completely consumed by prion tokens@FayeDrake @Rycochet @davidgerard As a wise woman once said, that's what sin is. Or at least a strong corollary.

I’m in Wales!!@skinnylatte Whales to Wales. I think "Wails" is next? Maybe find some kickin' Victorian costumery and something funny to be dramatic about, like a favorite restaurant temporarily closing for renovations.

Fuck scammers, but also fuck with scammers.Fuck scammers, but also fuck with scammers.
Got a rando nonfriend that messaged me on Steam about if I had just purchased a very expensive cosmetic item for the game Rust. He showed a screenshot of his marketplace sales history and everything! I do not play the game Rust, and immediately verified that I didn't have the transaction in my history.
It took a minute for the scam to develop, but our nonfriend MoneyTrees got to the hook quickly enough: For some reason now I "took" his item (that he listed for sale) so he reported me to Steam. And three hours ago, Steam Support responded with their plans for moderation: a 24-hour ban and full suspension! This is serious!
Obviously I've heard nothing, because Dorktrees means to have me log in somewhere else to jack my account. But I'm not that concerned about it; I won't be using Steam very soon.
I probably overplayed my hand, since I haven't heard from ScamyTrees since. Oh well.

Because of the outage, I had the Bluesky tab in my browser closed most of the day.@mttaggart I spend most of my Bsky time in my Mutuals feed at this point, and it's the only thing I wish I could easily replicate over here. Otherwise, it's much less important to me than here.
