@cwebber This is an interesting story. It makes me want to try it with a small model to explore the limits of the technique.

Like you, I'm deeply aggrieved at the AI industry, but find the tech and questions surrounding it interesting. Admittedly, I had a similar feeling about Bitcoin, so maybe that should give me more pause.

@rl_dane I looked around for some sort of LUG organization/coordination happening and didn't see anything. However, I guessed (correctly, as it turns out) that there were a bunch of people looking to get away from Windows 11. Having someone to ask for help in-person is a big deal for most people, so I wanted to start something.

So I just went to the library and asked about hosting a group. They talked me through their requirements and put out fliers for me. I didn't bother advertising online (because we're an hour+ from the nearest population center that has any sort of online presence).

I could probably collect more by posting on Nextdoor or something.

Once more, in public this time:

I ran my first Linux User Group at my local library today. 8 people showed up, half of which were new to Linux and interested to learn more. I'm in a fairly rural area.

There's community out there to be found.
