  • It's kind of amazing how many veteran Linux greyhairs I've seen, downstream of the age-check-in-systemd decision, saying well I guess I need to get comfortable with a BSD now.

@mhoye @llorenzin systemd mandating the nesting feature be turned on - which increases attack surface substantially - in order to run in LXC was responsible for my first install of Devuan within the past few months. I'm really hoping Devuan gets a lasting influx of donations & talent, realistically if I do eventually start switching to BSD it's gonna take me years to accomplish it.

@yvan @mhoye yeah I've been using Debian since 2000 and Linux since 1994 and the latest systemd debacle has definitely affected my strategy going forward.

@jimsalter @rl_dane @feoh after recent systemd debacles I've moved getting familiar with at least one BSD higher in my priority queue for this reason, although it would also be nice if Devuan deliberately develops in a direction consistent with the UNIX Philosophy™

@feoh @jimsalter with every new release, Canonical validates my decision to ditch Ubuntu... which, wow, was like 5 years ago or more already if you don't count Linux Mint as being Ubuntu (because they rip out a lot of the bad decisions). time flies.

I'm gonna switch to Linux Mint Debian Edition when I reinstall my laptop, then it really will be the end of an era. no Ubuntu or derivatives on any system I control.

@mhoye next we need the cost of sodium ion cells to go into free-fall while a dizzying variety of them become available

  • What are the implications for #ActivityPub user interface design?

@benpate @bengo @smallcircles @strypey @EUCommission @nlnet literally just re-implement tumblr, with the exact same reblog chain UX, and the same fusion of likes+reblogs into "notes" (before Matt Mullenweg ruined that, which was the subject of much caustic backlash from the userbase, many of whom have been there for ≥ 15 years) … and see what happens.

and no, Wafrn hasn't done this. I did have a good chat with the Wafrn guy about why the OG tumblr UX is important (its emergent effects) though.
