@pileczka_gaia I have a strong feeling I'll be going this way.
I already have syncthing on everything handling the sharing of the file... so really it's just about trying out the apps and then migrating

@ainmosni @olivvybee yeah, I am starting to wonder when a group of queer folk are going to create an OSS thing and just kill this particular enshittification loop
@olivvybee would love to, but the bitwarden pivot on pricing could easily extend to "clients only compatible with official server for security reasons", I am wary
what is the password manager of choice nowadays?
used to use LastPass, now on Bitwarden (who look like they're about to go full monetization), Dashlane are investigating something or other...
is 1 Password the only one left standing?
I'm on Android (GrapheneOS), Linux and Windows... so nothing super Apple specific please... but otherwise do recommend things.
@harmonycorrupted your posts are amazing, but your boosts... You do so much to support others, it's seen, you're amazing

No SWERFs means we support anyone in and around sex work
@mees oh totally. Just support them
️
Every time I boost a sex worker a few people will stop following me.
We say no TERFs and no SWERFs... But that also means support trans people and support sex workers.
Best way to support your trans sex workers? Give them money, go subscribe to their only fans, tell them how freaking hot they are, and tell your friends about the hot cutie you help support.
Be proud of supporting trans people, be proud of supporting sex workers. Boost them if you get off to them.
Edit: this post is clearly going to do numbers (7 boosts!) so reply with a sex worker that people should know about if you agree.
my #nixos dream is over... I cannot use it for work.
we need both Kolide and Fleet MDM clients installed by policy, and it's the lack of nix packaging for the latter and lack of support on that by Fleet which is really the issue.
my choices were essentially to either install Fleet with a separate Orbit with updates disabled... or to use OSQuery to enrol with Fleet... but both then fail compliance as Fleet needs updates, and Fleet needs to be detected as Fleet by Kolide.
I've raised this with Fleet via our shared Slack, and cited https://github.com/fleetdm/fleet/issues/7319 and https://github.com/fleetdm/fleet/issues/30510 and the one helpful signal here is that my being senior and a customer does help indicate the demand for supported nix packaging for Fleet.
I'll probably now switch to a Debian and just run nix for everything that isn't Kolide or Fleet... will build up from a minimal install Debian to get much the same experience, but with the weirdness of apt still being there doing updates for Fleet.
@aoanla oh my god, you're not gay just in June?
In advance of Pride Month I would like to make an announcement about me... it is this:
Queer all year.
They are the flags of my people, and not the flag for a time of year.
@zoeyTheWitch oh it's good, such a great overview and I have context... VP, Engineering and my calendar is typically 10-20 appointments per day, layered multi-day events, and travel touching multiple time zones... and it just works!
thank you for whatever your contribution to that was
️
@agatha well I'm having fun relearning the basics, haven't been inside Gnome for a decade or more.
I've yet to get into the real mess of NixOS where I attempt to access the Workday website and am only allowed to once I have fleetdm and kolide installed.
WTF... Super + H is minimize? It just... hides the window?
I guess that's the same thing, can't believe I'm searching the internet for things like "How do I minimize a window in Gnome?"... I swear I work in tech, like honestly I do.
I feel like I'm discovering Gnome as much as I'm discovering NixOS here.
I did not realise how nice their built-in mail and calendar is... I can just point this at my work Google account and finally will have offline mail and calendar actually working in airplane mode.
I can't figure out why they thought hiding the minimize window option in a drop down was wise... I hope there's a keyboard shortcut for this as I'm not using the mouse for this.
@Thayer I no longer think they exist with the funding necessary to hire.
Some companies are definitely better than others, and there are individual leaders in many companies who are good... but this is not the same as a tech company that wants to change the World for better and the definition of "for better" being universal (because Anthropic believe they're changing the World for better, but that's a "least worst" definition compared to OpenAI and others, not actually better and still not inclusive of most of the World's population).
Over the past 5-10 years especially, it feels like the original optimism of how technology could bring in a better future has been abandoned for pure capitalism. It is, disheartening, and reflects the landscape we're in.
The best tech is small, volunteer led, community owned, and that isn't hiring at the salaries those in tech are used to.
As someone smarter than me once said, the greatest minds of our generation are using surveillance to sell adverts... except now it's worse as we also have crypto, and AI in the mix, as well as fascism.
