This month's #RetroReading is a C+VG magazine from March 1988.I'm astounded to discover that "It's a Crime" is still running!

This month's #RetroReading is a C+VG magazine from March 1988.And no 80s mag retrospective would be complete without a shot of the ubiquitous Silica ads. It feels like they were running this style of ad right up till the death of the Amiga. I think I bought my A1200 and a multi-sync monitor from them in 93/94...

This month's #RetroReading is a C+VG magazine from March 1988.I'd almost completely forgotten about the existence of "Play By Mail" games, but apparently they were big enough to warrant as much coverage as consoles. The "It's a Crime" ad feels like it was everywhere in the late 80s. And Wayne might be the most 80s dude imaginable.
I seem to remember being deeply intrigued by them. But then I got in with a DnD/Warhammer group and probably saved myself a tonne of money in postage.

This month's #RetroReading is a C+VG magazine from March 1988.In fact, console games were so niche in Europe back then that they were relegated to a few pages at the back of the mag. The "Mean Machines" section would later get its own four part special magazine, then a monthly of its own.
Consoles seemed so exotic and futuristic back then. With expensive games, at 30 quid a pop. But it was the first part I turned to every month.

It's a mostly uneventful month, at a time when C+VG was mostly focused on the 8/16 home micros (and a far cry from the bombastic style of its 90s incarnation).
But this double-paged #MasterSystem ad really ticked the nostalgia bone...
