@mossyfoot okay so for this less efficient than ground source & higher replacement cost system, it'd be $10,000-$15,000 instead of $30,000-60,000 for my home, which still won't ever makeup it's cost & is way too expensive, but at least would put it at under what we paid for the house & property itself.

*Forget traveling to Asia, at this point I doubt I'll ever get a passport again.

@dgoldsmith Ground source heat pumps no doubt work well long-term but the problem is their up front cost, many of us not having the money for said minimall up front cost of $15,000 nor the credit rating needed to get "financing", about a decade ago I asked what they might cost & was told it'd be over $50,000 which is just ridiculously expensive. Adding more insulation & getting regular heating & cooling devices being far more budgetable.

  • A surprise collab just happened.

@itsfoss I'm waiting overall until they share what this device will actually be. If it's just another touchscreen only device, with fingerprint & face scanners, that needs a case to avoid it breaking before I've even charged it the first time, then I'm continuing to avoid #graphene in favor of systems like #lineage & #postmarket that offer decent diversity of device compatibility.

  • AI, in the way it's used now, is automation but without control, without predictable outcomes, and without transparency.
    brahmabelarusian@regenerate.socialB brahmabelarusian@regenerate.social

@Em0nM4stodon this is why I'm generally careful is in my statements against generative AI, because I'm actually supportive of it being used in ways that are very controlled, predictable & have full transparency. Like using it with cameras & similar censors to monitor oil & gas pipelines for leaks & then reporting possible leaks to humans for making repairs. Angling those cameras in network's to make them not really view nevermind analyze anything beyond pipeles & support structures for them being helpful.

Similarly AIs with machines as options for helping disabled people sharpen knives, among other simple tasks can definitely be done but simply aren't at this point.

  • ODF is just the first of the advantages of LibreOffice
    brahmabelarusian@regenerate.socialB brahmabelarusian@regenerate.social

@libreoffice The biggest advantages are barely & basically glossed over in this blog post & that's the fact that it doesn't require large file sizes to be used nor for devices using it to consistently have internet access, both of which work together to allow it, unlike Microsoft & Apple/IOs to be used on any & all devices with build times from it's initial creation (over 20 years ago) and anywhere after its been installed.
