@mike The end poverty claims are anesthesia, pure and simple. If the will/morality to provide UBI existed, it would be in place already.
If AI replaces human workers at scale, the result will be fewer people who can work and fewer people who can buy things. The solution won’t be UBI, it will be allowing those who can’t buy things to die off. Talk of ending poverty is there to distract while this future is put into place.
I’m not saying AI will actually accomplish this; my best guess is that AI replacement will backfire spectacularly and we’ll spend years unwinding the technical debt. But I do believe that’s the way tech execs are thinking. For example:
